On the week-end at the Melb. Autosalon i couldn't believe how some people are so confident that they bagg the $h!t out of other competitors. Things such as their equipment, set up, vehicle, and the numbers they pull. We all may sometimes do it amongst ourselves or close friends but to openly say it in front of others that they don't even know and to say it out loud I think is crap. Why not put your 2 cents in and give your advise to help these people or don't say anything at all. i had a female friend who decided to give DB Racing a go on the week-end (first timer) and a particular person came up to me and said "why is she bothering?" She entered with the system that she had in her daily driver, standard off the shelf box with sub with 4 channel amp. with what she had and the set up both Angelo and i were surprised with what numbers she did. But now she has the DB Bug. She wants to do more. If she had heard what i heard that's it, we will never see her in the lanes again.
Not only did this person say this about her but i was dumb founded when they went up to the current Australian SPL king and said "lot of work you did for crap numbers like that"
When they got into the lanes they were far from impressive at all.
Does this always go on?
Don't we want more people in our sport?
Do we need people like this in our sport?
How would you of handled this?
Am i reading into this too much?
Just want to hear your say.
NOTE:To that particular person
i now know of a few people that are thinking to enter in the same class to make you look like $h!t
Also telling people numbers you did, doesn't count when it's a reading given on a nokia mobile phone

Last time we had someone do that we banned them from competing.

How on earth is the sport suppose to grow when we have people like this come along and destroy it for others with a few simple words.....

Its hard enough getting new people into this sport without that kind of crap going on.
Yeah, as you said, it happens between the more senior guys, but its just a bit of crap slinging and no more...(I hope) when its as you described its not needed at all.

I love bagging out my fellow pros, I know I cop it too. But that's OK, we know the real deal.
But bagging a new competitor who's just getting started and is trying to have fun is BAD

i totally agree with you there Phil
of course we do that to each other in jest as we all know how much it takes for us just to get to the levels we are at
and for new competitors
to be BAGGING them out
what are you trying to achive?
push people away from this fine sport so your the only one left?
there was one guy there that came along for a bit of fun last and this year he was back
he was on 129 at the start of the day running extreamly cheap gear and with all our help he ended up with 139 by the end of the day
thats what made me happy
and also setting a pb for my first comp
and he remembered me from last year
and he brought a few more friend also to compete this year
more to follow

Was expecting to have to deal with assholes crapping on at each other, and me, about how big their.....errr..... excursion is
I've tried out dozens of clubs, sports, and even Internet forums, and found it just about everywhere *coughboostcruisingcough*.
Luckily the day for me was great.
Everyone was willing to share every detail of their system and give hints and tips where needed.
Another thing I found good was the fact that everyone pitched in with window/boot duty, even with their direct competitors in the same class, to help squeeze out that extra .1 dB.
As for forums, well, this one is right up there in my good books for an inviting atmosphere

I think that comments and behaviour like that is uncalled for, and that we don't need people like that at our events. It puts a downer on a good day out. Also if we didn't take notice of things that people say, we would not strive to prove them wrong.
I know from my first year of competing, i was laughed at for running a car with a daily driver system that wasn't top shelf equipment and up to "their" dB standard, having them tell me to take it home, tell me that i don't know what i'm doing and so on. But i think i have proved to those poeple that they were wrong.
"WHAT DOES NOT KILL ME WILL MAKE ME STRONGER"
There will always be dickheads in every sport.
Those dickheads should have their names revealed and we should have a trophy for the first person who can hand their ass to them on a sliver platter.

George is on the ball again, and correct, yes it was them and im not afraid to mention it, the guy is a complete !@#$
Wether your a long time competitor or just starting out no one has the right to put you or your car down at a comp.
I dont claim to be the loudest or have the best setup, its far from it, no measuring no testing, but hey the same goes for a lot of cars that compete but we are all out there to help one another and support the sport.
Now Samuel like the old saying goes if you have nothing nice to say dont say anything at ALL!!
Sorry i did a lot of work on my van and do crap numbers, obviously you spent a lot more time on yours thats why your louder than me.
I mean you did do 165db at easternats yeah????

Ahh yes i was really hoping to see the 164dB barrier broken by them again but alas must have had some technical probelms since not only was the 160dB barrier unpassed for them but also the 150dB barrier.
Or perhaps the mics are reading 20dB low...............
Anyway shame to hear avbout that in the sport. I love to encourage and where i can help the new comptitors. nothing better than to see someone with a 129dB turen that into a personal best for the day of 139dB. You should see the look on someones face when they have been helped to gain 10dB out of a system.............

I can't believe they are still claiming 165dB at Easternats it was on AC. They tried the scare tactics last year, and they were beaten by cars with a single 12.
Their attitude is disgusting.

Well when i pulled a 148.5 with a sinle 12" he did not come near me the whole day or said another word.
I used to love SPL events i went to more than i competed but i what i loved most was approaching competitors and just throwing a tip or two like "instead of running 2x12's and a 15 how about disconnect the 15 it will gain you numbers".
The look on their faces said it all when they drove into the lanes, and basically made me feel somewhat productive.

Hey guys just wanted to know what your opinion was with people bagging other people in the lanes.

I use to own a hyundai excel and copped so much flak for it, especially at sound-offs
but the comments were made by people that werent even entered in the competition!!
it was only when i managed to hit 150.1db with 4 12" orions running off 2 mrd 500
alpine digitals that the chuckles stopped!!! so my advice to everyone out there,
if you need to bag someone out for what they've got, you need to find another
sport to follow!!!
